2019 Race Number 22: Fiesta Especial 5K

My 22nd race of 2019 was the Fiesta Especial 5K on April 20th in Windcrest, Texas, a small city within the boundaries of San Antonio and Bexar County.  This race is part of the Fiesta San Antonio celebration, which started on April 18. Fiesta San Antonio is a 10-day long party held every April, with several kinds of events, including races, that raise funds primarily for local education entities, scholarships for students, and a few other causes.   This is one of the smaller races of Fiesta, with about 100 participants today. This race is also one of ‘inclusion’ and has runners and walkers of all abilities, including several disabled participants of various types of disabilities.

2019 Race Number 21: Confetti 5K

My 21st race of 2019 was the Confetti 5K held on April 13 at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas.  This was the 3rd year this race has been held and I have done all of them since it started, so this is now one of my ‘streak’ races that I will hopefully continue to be able to do each year it is put on.  This is a very popular local event and at packet pickup one of the volunteers told me the race sold out at its limit of 1,000 participants.  Please feel free to save/share my event report and photos located at the links below.

2019 Race Number 20 Wanderlust 5K

My 20th race of 2019; moving right along this year!  Held on April 6, The Wanderlust 5K, 10K, and half marathon was the last of a series of 4 “Hill Country” races put on by local race company Scallywompus, which has some really great events and even better after-parties.  I did the 5K.  Event was held in Fredericksburg, Texas, about an hour or so west of San Antonio.

2019 Race Number 19 San Antonio City Manager’s 5K

My 19th race of 2019 was the City Manager’s 5K (CM5k) held on March 31 at Roosevelt Park in San Antonio. This event started in 20007 to showcase the city’s concentration on increasing an interest in wellness among City of San Antonio employees and their families. As the 5K grew, it was eventually opened to the entire community.  For this year’s 5K, the city partnered with the YMCA and its annual Siclovia event, a free event that turns major city streets into a temporarily car-free safe place for people to run, ride bikes, take exercise classes, and more for about 5 hours. CM5K has become quite a popular event.  For this year, not sure how many participants there were, but it was well over 2,500, from just looking at the results.

2018 Race Number 18 San Antonio State Hospital (SASH) Spring Thing 5K

My 18th race of 2019 was the SASH Spring Thing 5K on March 30, held on the campus of San Antonio State Hospital (SASH). About 200 or so participants for this one. If I remember correctly I think this was their inaugural race too. The run benefitted the Volunteer Services Council of SASH in their efforts of supporting and providing quality mental health treatment.  SASH is one of 10 state mental health facilities within the Texas Health and Human Services department.

2019 Race 15 – Scallywompus 5K 10K Half Marathon

My 15th race of 2019, held on March 10, was the Scallywompus 5K.  The main event was a half marathon.  There was also a 10K and a Kid’s Run.  Location was Tanger Outlet Stores in San Marcos, Texas, which is about a 40 minute to 1 hour drive from San Antonio, depending on your San Antonio location.  Since the time change to DLS was on Saturday night, with the clock going ahead, I think a few people were a bit tired, losing that hour of sleep, including me, so I was thankful I was only doing the 5K.  The Half started at 7:30, the 10K at 8:15 and the 5K at 8:35.  Please feel free to save/share my event report and photos located at the links below.

2019 Race Number 14: Harp and Shamrock 5K

My 14th race of 2019 was the Harp and Shamrock 5K held on Mary 9 in San Antonio at South Side Lions Park East, part of the San Antonio ‘greenway’ system of parks. There was also a competitive walk division for the walkers, to they got their own set of award, very nice. This race’s charity beneficiary was Marrow Match this year, an organization seeking marrow donors. There was also a local animal shelter doing a dog adoption day too onsite. I gave away a lot of doggie biscuits, lol. This race is the oldest St. Patrick’s Day race in San Antonio and started out as “Donovan’s Run a few decades ago.  Please feel free to save/share my event report/photos located at the links below:

My 13th race of 2019 was the Krispy Kreme Donut Dash 5K, associated with the Run The Alamo 13.1, Mararthon, and 10K. This event helps support the Children’s Rehabilitation Institute of Teleton USA, which services disabled children and their families. Having been born myself with a birth defect, races that support the disabled, especially children, are a personal cause for me. The race location was Hemisfair in downtown San Antonio, starting and finishing near the HemisFair Tower.  Please feel free to share/save my event report/photos located at the links below.
