Scottydog Reports

My 76^th race of 2018 was District 3 Fall 5K Fun Run/Walk held in San Antonio on November 3.  This event, put on by District 3 Councilwoman Rebecca Viagran and her staff, is part of the city’s series of annual events that encourage San Antonians to get out and be physically active.  Location was at the Greenline, a relatively new park recently opened at Brooks City Base as part of the city’s greenways trail system.  Please feel free to save/share my event report and photos located at the links below.

My 75^th race of 2018 was the Rowdy Rec 5K held on October 27 at University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) which is where I work.  This is annual fundraiser for the university’s rec center (gym, pool, racquetball courts, weights, etc) and this year they Rec Center is celebrating its 20^th anniversary.  Because Halloween was the following week, several people were in costume. My 74^th race of 2018 was the Run With A Mission 5K on October 21. Held at Morgan’s Wonderland, this event was a fun-run fundraiser for the 38 Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of San Antonio.  Please feel free to save/share my event report and photos located at the links below.

My 73^rd race of 2018 was the Paint the Parkway Pink 5K on October 20, held at North Central Baptist Hospital in the Stone Oak area of San Antonio, Texas.  This event raised money to help find a cure for breast cancer. My 72^nd race of 2018 was the Battle of Hillotes 5K on October 13.  There was also a half marathon and a 10K.  This race was part of the Alamo Beer series of races – Alamo Beer being the primary sponsor – that were in preparation for the San Antonio Rock n Roll Marathon and Half Marathon coming up in December.   Local race company Scallywompus wat the organizer of this series. Race location was Helotes, Texas, a small and quaint town that borders the city limits of San Antonio.  This is also a VERY hilly town, hence the name of the race.

My 71^st race of 2018 was the Hero Fest 5K on October 7 at Mission County Park in San Antonio.  There was also a 10K.  This event supports a fund that helps firefighters who have cancer.  Please feel free to save/share my event report and photos located at the links below.

My 70^th race of 2018 was The Run For Rex 5K on October 6, starting and finishing at Valero Energy Corporation.   This event raised money for the SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) Foundation to help find a cure.  I never lost a child to SIDS but I can relate to the loss as I lost an infant son many many years ago to a drunk driver.  Any loss of a child for any reason is a real tragedy so this event has personal meaning for me. My 69^th race of 2018 was the Brave Pajama 5K on Sep 30^th at McAllister Park in San Antonio.  Project Brave is an education and prevention assistance organization against domestic violence.  This was a late starting race that included a kid’s run at 9:15 a.m., a 10K starting at 9:30 a.m. and the 5K starting at 9:45 a.m. Please feel free to save/share my report and photos located at the links below.

My 68^th race of 2018 was the SNIPSA 5K, supporting the local San Antonio Spay and Neuter program.  This is a dog friendly event so lots of dogs present at this one, and there were also some dogs there available for starting adoption process.

My 67^th race of 2018 was Head For The Cure 5K held on Sep 22 in San Antonio.  This event is put on by San Antonio’s local ABC-TV affiliate station KSAT-13, who started this local event many years ago in honor of one of their employees who died of brain cancer.  Head For The Cure is a national organization which holds 5Ks through local organizations in many cities around the US.
