My 40th race of 2019 was the Beards vs Beans Longest Day 5K held on June 22 at Comanche Park in San Antonio, TX. This event raised funds for the Altzheimer’s Association Two brothers put this one on, as well as a couple of other events during the year, as a friendly sibling rivalry who both raise money for the cause. If I remember correctly, one likes beans, the other does not, so whomever raises the most funds, the other one has to either eat a plate of beans or shave off his beard.

 My 39^th race of 2019 was the Purnell Racing Flag Day 10K/5K held on June 16, Father’s Day 2019, at Bluebonnet Palace, a dance, music, and entertainment venue in Selma, Texas.  This race is part of Purnell Racing (https://www.purnellracing.com/)  Grand Prix Race Series, a series of races where you get points for each race done and for age group placing, and so forth.  This was my 2^nd race of the weekend after doing Carrabba’s 5K the day before.  This was a fairly small event so it felt more like a nice fun run with friends rather than a race, which was all right with me.

My 38^th race of 2019 was the San Antonio Roadrunners Carrabba’s 5K held on June 15 in McAllister Park, San Antonio, TX.  The main event was Carrabba’s Half Marathon/Half-Marathon Relay with teams of 4 members each. There was also a Kids Run.  The Half and relay started at 7:30 a.m. and the 5K at 8 a.m.  This is a very popular annual event and the race sold out.

My 37^th race of 2019 was Big Red and Barbacoa 5K held on June 9^th at Comanche Park in San Antonio.  This event supports SA Eagles Athletics Club is a nonprofit organization designed to expose our youth to the sport of track & field and running.

My 36^th race of 2019 was the CASA Movie Hero Run 5K on June 8, which also included a Kids Run and a Family Fun 1K. This race supports Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Central Texas for training community volunteers for abused and neglected children in the courts, schools, and child welfare system.    Event locale was Stars and Stripes Drive-In Movie Theater in New Braunfels, TX.

My 35^th race of 2019 was the Run SA Youth Series 5K at Southside Lions Park East in San Antonio on June 2^nd. Run SA Youth provides accessible, free and incentivized workout programs to kids from all backgrounds and neighborhoods.  The Series includes 4 races done over the Spring/Summer season.

My 34^th race of 2019 was the Luke Holler 5K on June 1, held at Bulverde City Park in Bulverde, Texas. This annual 5K run/walk is done in honor or Luke Holler, Marine from San Antonio’s 4th Reconnaissance Battalion who was KIA in 11/2/06 by a roadside bomb in western Iraq’s Al-Anbar province while soldiers were extracting his unit from a reconnaissance mission. This event is done annually to remember the sacrifices made for freedom and to remember, respect, and honor Luke’s personal sacrifice. Proceeds benefit the Recon and Sniper Foundation, providing veterans with the resources and supporting infrastructure they need to make a meaningful transition back to civilian life.

My 33^rd race of 2019 was the American Hero Relay 25K, which also included a solo 5K, which is the event I did. The relay was teams of 5 runners, each doing 3.1 miles.  There were also participants that did the 25K solo.  Held on May 26 at Comanche Park in San Antonio.

 My 32^nd race of 2019 was Police and Firefighters Memorial 5K put on by Purnell Racing on May 25.  This event honored and recognized police and firefighters fallen in the line of duty and proceeds benefit the San Antonio 100 Club that provides surviving family members funds for immediate and long-term needs. Race location was Heroes Stadium, an 11,000-seat stadium serving the needs of North East Independent School District in San Antonio.  Race start time of 8:30 a.m., with a Kids run at 8 a.m., and a remembrance ceremony – color guard, bagpipe players, National Anthem, etc – at 8:15 a.m.

My 31^st race of 2019 was Run For the Children 5K on May 19.  This event supported Child Advocates of San Antonio (CASA), which recruits, trains, and supervises court-appointed volunteer Advocates who provide constancy for abused and neglected children and youth while advocating for services and placement in safe and permanent homes. Start and finish near Crockett Park, located on Main Street, a few miles away from the heart of downtown San Antonio and in proximity to San Antonio College.   Please feel free to save/share my event report/photos located at the links below.
