My 58th race of 2019 was Dia de Los Muertos 5K (Day of the Dead) held on 26 October at 5 pm in McCallister Park, San Antonio.  This is quite a popular local annual event, with several people wearing costumes and a post-race costume contest.  Some pretty awesome and imaginative costumes.

2019 Race Number 55: Cleft Strong 5K

My 55th race of 2019, was held on October 12t at Los Patios, a local San Antonio area restaurant that borders on the off-road paved trails of Lady Bird Johnson Park. Start time of 8:30 a.m. This event supports Cleft Strong, an organization that helps children and infants born with cleft palates. Los Patios is only about 7 miles from where I live, so it did not take me long to get there, find some parking, and then get a few pre-start photos. There were about 150 or so participants for this event. There was also a kids’ run and a Disney-themed costume contest for both adults and kids.

2019 Race 54 Taco Trample 5K and 10K

My 54th race of 2019, and my 2nd race after my pace-maker implant surgery this year, after being cleared to run again – was held on October 5 in Floresville, Texas, was the Taco Trample 5K and 10K put on by the Wilson County Road Runners.  Location was a place called The Beer Warehouse – which was not really a warehouse and did not have any beer in it, lol.  Nice building though, with inside A/C and inside restrooms and a large community room where post-race food and drink was served and the awards ceremony was held

2019 Race 53: Head For The Cure 5K

My 53rd race of 2019 was Head For The Cure 5K on Sep 28th, an even that supports raising funds for brain cancer research. This was the 6th year for this event, which was started by local ABC news affiliate KSAT-13 after its news director died if brain cancer.  This is one of my ‘streak’ races, I have done this event every year since it started.  This was also my first race since having my pacemaker implant that I was cleared to go back to normal – normal for my anyway – and do my run/walk method, so I got to run in this one.  Race start time of 8 am., with location at Providence High School near downtown San Antonio.  This has become quite a popular event and there was around 900 runner-and-walker participants.

2019 Race 52 Zero Prostate 5K 10K San Antonio

My 52nd race of 2019 was the Zero Prostate 5K held on Sep 22 at Mission County Park in San Antonio.  This was my 2nd 5K of the weekend after doing the Scallywompus 5K the night before this event.  This event raises money for prostate cancer research – which I appreciate since I am facing an upcoming prostate biopsy since my last PSA was a bit high. Anyhoo, there was also a 10K and a 1-mile walk, and a short kid’s run.

2019 Race 51: Scallywompus 10M, 5M, and 5K

My 51st race of 2019 was the Scallywompus Battle of Cibolo Creek 5K held on Sep 21st.  There was also a 10-miler and a 5-miler.  This was my first race since having my pacemaker implant on Aug 22.  Still not quite cleared to run, so I walked this one, a night-time event starting a little after 8 p.m., held at River Community Church in Selma, Texas, a small community bordering on the San Antonio city limits.

My 50th race of 2019 was the Dragon’s Den 5K on August 17, my last race for a while, as I have to take a month off after my pacemaker surgery on August 22. There was also a 10K and a half marathon. Put on by E-Dragon Productions – the Burciaga Family – this event was held in the VERY hilly Pearsall Park, which is located close to Port San Antonio (formerly Kelly Air Force Base) and Joint Base San Antonio Lackland, the home of Air Force Basic Training.  The Half started at 6:30 a.m., the 10K started at 6:45 a.m. and we 5K folks brought up the rear, starting at 7 a.m.
