2019 Race 54 Taco Trample 5K and 10K

My 54th race of 2019, and my 2nd race after my pace-maker implant surgery this year, after being cleared to run again – was held on October 5 in Floresville, Texas, was the Taco Trample 5K and 10K put on by the Wilson County Road Runners.  Location was a place called The Beer Warehouse – which was not really a warehouse and did not have any beer in it, lol.  Nice building though, with inside A/C and inside restrooms and a large community room where post-race food and drink was served and the awards ceremony was held

2019 Race 53: Head For The Cure 5K

My 53rd race of 2019 was Head For The Cure 5K on Sep 28th, an even that supports raising funds for brain cancer research. This was the 6th year for this event, which was started by local ABC news affiliate KSAT-13 after its news director died if brain cancer.  This is one of my ‘streak’ races, I have done this event every year since it started.  This was also my first race since having my pacemaker implant that I was cleared to go back to normal – normal for my anyway – and do my run/walk method, so I got to run in this one.  Race start time of 8 am., with location at Providence High School near downtown San Antonio.  This has become quite a popular event and there was around 900 runner-and-walker participants.

2019 Race 52 Zero Prostate 5K 10K San Antonio

My 52nd race of 2019 was the Zero Prostate 5K held on Sep 22 at Mission County Park in San Antonio.  This was my 2nd 5K of the weekend after doing the Scallywompus 5K the night before this event.  This event raises money for prostate cancer research – which I appreciate since I am facing an upcoming prostate biopsy since my last PSA was a bit high. Anyhoo, there was also a 10K and a 1-mile walk, and a short kid’s run.

2019 Race 51: Scallywompus 10M, 5M, and 5K

My 51st race of 2019 was the Scallywompus Battle of Cibolo Creek 5K held on Sep 21st.  There was also a 10-miler and a 5-miler.  This was my first race since having my pacemaker implant on Aug 22.  Still not quite cleared to run, so I walked this one, a night-time event starting a little after 8 p.m., held at River Community Church in Selma, Texas, a small community bordering on the San Antonio city limits.

2019 Race Number 50: Dragon’s Den 5K 10K Half

My 50th race of 2019 was the Dragon’s Den 5K on August 17, my last race for a while, as I have to take a month off after my pacemaker surgery on August 22. There was also a 10K and a half marathon. Put on by E-Dragon Productions – the Burciaga Family – this event was held in the VERY hilly Pearsall Park, which is located close to Port San Antonio (formerly Kelly Air Force Base) and Joint Base San Antonio Lackland, the home of Air Force Basic Training.  The Half started at 6:30 a.m., the 10K started at 6:45 a.m. and we 5K folks brought up the rear, starting at 7 a.m.

2019 Race 49 Scallywompus Alamo Beer 5K 10K

My 49th race of 2019 was the Alamo Beer 5K.  There was also a 10K.  This event is the first race of the Alamo Beer series of 4 races that gradually increase distances over each event in preparation for the San Antonio Rock n Roll Marathon and Half Marathon in December.  Put on by local race company Scallywompus, these are quite popular events, especially as the motto of Scallywompus is “Come for the race. Stay for the party.”  They are not kidding, either, Scallywompus throws one heck of an after party.  Between the 10K and the 5K there were about 1100 registered, so it was quite filled up.  Event location was Alamo Brewery near downtown San Antonio.

2019 Race Number 48 SA Summer Series 5K

My 48th 5K of 2019 was the SA 5K Summer Series.  This series of 4 summer 5Ks benefits SA Youth, helping young people achieve academic success, develop their character, and promote healthy lifestyles.  The 5K today was the last one for this season’s series.  Event location was McAllister Park in San Antonio.  E-Dragon Productions, owned by the local Burciaga family of runners, organize these events, with local race management company iaap doing the timing and results.

2019 Race 47 Winter in July 5K 10K

My 47th race of 2019 was the Winter in July 5K held on July 27th at Wheatley Heights sports complex in San Antonio, Texas.  There was also a 10K and a Kid’s Run.  This event raises funds for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Memphis.  I try to do this event every year as it’s a personal one for me as, way back when, during my Air Force days, I was a volunteer at St. Jude’s.  Kids with cancer are some of the most courageous people I have ever met.

2019 Race Number 46 Summer Scorcher 5K

My 46th race of 2019 was the Summer Scorcher 5K held on July 20 at Mission County Park in San Antonio, put on by Soler Sports.  Fairly small event with about 200 or so participants. Race start time of 7:45, with a kids race going on before the main start.  Mission County Park 1 is a nice facility with a couple of pavilions, restrooms, a kitchen and food preparation area, and other amenities.  It borders along the Mission Reach section of the San Antonio Riverwalk paved trails. About 200 or so participants for this one.

My 45th race of 2019 was  the Texas Too Hot 5K held on July 14 at Boerne Lake Park in Boerne, Texas. This event is put on by iRun Texas a really great local running, training, and race management company, which is actually my favorite running store in the San Antonio area for getting my running shoes, GU, and running insoles.   There was also a 15K and a Kids 1K.  Race start time of 7:30 a.m.
